You will shortly be receiving the request for your child’s membership fees. At the AGM we agreed to increase them above the level of inflation and I wanted to explain why the AGM voted for such increases.
Our budget aim is to cover the annual costs of running football (hire of training venues, equipment referees etc) with the annual membership income. Extra revenue brought in from the Tournament, Comedy night etc, we allocate to one off costs such as summer grounds maintenance and new goals. These revenues are seen as extras and are not guaranteed (eg we didn’t run a tournament for 3 years)
For the last financial year there was a 15% shortfall in membership income compared to the annual footballing costs largely driven by the increase in training venue costs, which in turn is a result of wider usage of better but more expensive facilities such as 3G pitches. Consequently we proposed these revised fees to the AGM, which voted in support.
As a side note, over the summer I took part in a survey with other similar clubs in Hertfordshire. Even at these new rates CCYFC’s fees are still lower than any other equivalent club in the area.
At the AGM it was also agreed to drop the option of paying in two instalments. This option was increasing the workload of the membership secretary by up to 80% and at a time when we are struggling for volunteers, was not sustainable.
It is not our intention to price any players out of football. If you have real financial difficulties please talk to me or a member of the Exec Committee and we will see what can be done.
In many ways we were uncomfortable with these increases but it is our duty to protect the club both now and for the future and short of a major sponsorship deal we had little option than to propose and implement these increase.
